Eloise Hart Kelly
Weaver and natural dyer from Midcoast Maine, currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
I learned to weave in high school - taught by the wonderful Melissa Johnson at the Putney School and absolutely fell in love with fiber arts, natural dyeing, and working with wool. My mom has a small homestead in Bremen, Maine and cares for a flock of sheep and many dye plants— indigo, marigolds, red onions, dyers coreopsis, mint, Black-eyed Susans, and a failed crop of madder root. I weave most of my textiles with wool from our sheep — the yarn is spun at New Aimes - a local spinnery, and hand dyed with plants and flowers by me. I weave everything by hand on my eight harness schacht loom and macomber rug loom. I love the process of working with wool from start to finish and find the natural dyeing process to be magical. I have also woven with cotton, tencel, and silk and love trying new patterns and ways of weaving and dyeing.
